True Lies

The first half of this movie surely earns this one a place in the Action Movie Hall of Fame. Arnie plays a spy whose wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) feels bored in her marriage, as she believes her husband to be an insurance salesman. So when super-spy Simon (Bill Paxton) enlists her help in escaping from terrorists, she jumps at the chance for some excitement. The only problem, Simon is actually a used-car salesman who pretends to be a spy to pick up women.

Arnie gets wind of this, and using his resources as a spy, devises a hilarious plot to win back his wife’s affections and humiliate Simon all at once. Fun and frolics follow. The movie becomes pretty generic Arnie after about the half-way mark, once Tia Carrere’s character enters. But up to that point, it’s a riot – funny, clever and sexy (Jamie Lee Curtis’s dance sequence is not one you’re likely to forget – she looks simply stunning).

One of the funniest sequences in the movie is surely when Arnie’s threatening of the exposed Simon causes him to break down and exclaim “I got a little dick, it’s pathetic!

A solid B+ for the first half, a meagre B- for the rest. Definitely worth a watch.
